The latest news is that new car registrations have dropped for the first time in the last six years. The new car market has shrunk by 5.7% over the past 12 months.
Even though the petrol and diesel vehicles had dropped. Electric and plug-in hybrid car sales hit record levels. Sales were increased by 27 percent in 2017 compared to previous year, as demand in south-west England more than doubles.
It seems like diesel vehicles had the biggest hit when it came to lack of sales. Much of this comes from confusion to diesel cars being a higher risk to the planet because of the emissions and the increase in road tax when it comes to new registration diesel cars. It seems that VW has a lot to blame for this issue when it carried out a scam on its diesel engine emissions in 2015 and breaking the trust of consumers.
Being a successful Kia dealership, we believe to see car dealers offering a scrappage scheme which will allow diesel car owners to part exchange their vehicle and upgrade to an electric car. We’ve definitely seen a huge increase in our electric and hybrid range last year and expect to see even higher this year.
